- I got a new tattoo - Faith, Hope, Love
- I got a new "daughter" - Son got engaged to a wonderful girl with a heart of gold.
- I loved and lost and pretty much gave up on having a partner in this life. Filed for divorce after one year of being married to someone for convenience, fell in love with someone after that and he chose someone else, then decided I will not be trying anymore. I don't think anyone will ever be able to handle my life with three special needs kids.
- Made the toughest decision of my life to give up one of my precious jewels to be cared for by someone else because I could not keep her safe. I have no idea how I will change my situation enough to get her back but I pray every day that God will miraculously work it out.
- Stopped going to church because I found I was serving to keep the "pastor" from getting angry rather than serving God. I miss my church family and missing that connection with other believers but have not been able to bring myself to begin the search.
- Worked for the same company for the entire year. So many adventures and new opportunities. Got to drive a silage truck in a corn field and learned how to dump it. Almost wrecked it a couple times (in the same day) but managed to hold it together.
- Lost another 50 pounds (+ or -, wasn't really keeping track).
- Lost my driver's license - uninsured accident - only another month till I get it back. So have been riding the bus, begging rides from others and learning a very tough, expensive lesson.
- Have survived a year of parenting four teenagers (or almost teenagers) with mental health issues. ALL FOUR are now on some kind of psych med. #1 = depression, #2 = depression, ADD, ASD and superventricular tachycardia. #3 = depression, suicidal, cutting, Trauma-induced DID, gender dysphoria, SID and ASD. #4 = depression, ASD, SID, anxiety disorder, gender dysphoria, OCD and anorexia. I love them so much. This hurts. Some days I am totally overwhelmed. But so far, I have made it through.
- Through the challenges, I am blessed to be able to recognize how blessed I am. I have so many friends who back me up and lift me up and cheer me up.

The Day After...
I was an awkward teenager with a mouth that ran faster than my brain. I remember sitting at a table of girls in the high school library and saying something odd - per my quirky sarcastic sense of humor. The entire conversation stopped and en masse they all got up and walked away, leaving me sitting there like the odd man out I have always been.
At cheerleading try outs, two teams were picked. One for basketball and one for football. I was the only candidate not picked for either team.
As a senior, I was so bad at Volleyball (my chosen sport) that my playing on the varsity team would have been disastrous. They couldn't push me back to JV because I was a senior. SO they asked me to be equipment manager rather than kick me off the team. That way I could still get my letter, but they didn't have to put me on the court. OK...fine...yet - Odd man out.
Yesterday, we were adults; some of us were intoxicated loud adults, but adults nevertheless. Life has a way of softening your edges and changing your perspective. Each one had something about them now that I admire.
The traveling some have done! The careers of making a difference in this world! The awkward farm boy who is now the parent of a Downs child and did an incredible job of caring for that child during the reunion!
The beautiful grandchildren.
Oh, yes, I imagine there are skeletons and some of the stories are tough. But we made it through. We grew up into a FINE bunch of people.
And it only took 30 years. :D

I caved...
Just one.
After I got done with my dinner.
And finished my previous blog.
And hit the little Mommies room.
And walked the dog.
And made them sing Silent Night with me.
And warmed up my coffee.
Cuz i'm mean like that. :D
Number four went first. She opened a bed set...comforter, bed skirt and sham in purple satin and velvet. She wasn't real thrilled...until Mommy started fawning over it and saying "Oooo, It's my FAVORITE color. I am SOOOOoooo Jealous!" Then, Suddenly, it became wonderously awesome. And of COURSE I had to put it on her bed for her to sleep under TONIGHT.
Number three opened a kid-sized guitar. I tuned it for her, best I knew how. And she was in HEAVEN. Showed her how to use the fret guides to learn chords. She's been practicing on my old one. My sweet artist.
Number two peeled back the paper on a microscope. VERY cool!! I was always jealous of my sister growing up, cuz she got one and i got an electric pedicure set. Guess that's why she's the teacher and I'm the no-account.
ANYWAY, it took six triple A batteries.
YOU GUESSED IT...not included.
Trip to the minimarket to blow EIGHT bucks on batteries. Yah. It's a small town, WhatkinIsay?
But WOW did we have a blast. I let her look at a slide of my blood. Salt, pepper, hair (three different kinds...sisters, mom's grey and mom's brown), the dog, the couch, soap...
then we discovered you could project the image onto your TV. Uh huh! OH yah!
I may play with it for awhile after she goes to sleep...
Number one got a portable CD player. His other one went belly up. Which I think served him right because he lost my Josh Turner CD. AND broke the case to my Rascal Flatts Melt CD.
Which is a big deal, you see, because I only own five CD's.
Guess he's gonna learn them REALLY WELL. And he'll have something to listen to at school. Yes, they can. Because some of the kids in his school are WAY too irritating for reality.
And because although he ADORES his MP3 player...well, you have to HAVE music to download into it. I can't afford it and, well, I only have five CD's.
Did I mention I only have five CD's. Well, four if you don't count the Josh Turner one he lost.
So they went to bed happy and excited about tomorrow morning and stockings and presents and turkey.
And the fact that this DARN SNOW is finally MELTING.
Thank you God!

ThanksGivingness
Yah, I thought so too!
Loverboy and I with Number 4.Dinner is done...and I'm Pooped!
But it was ALL worth it.
A wonderful gift to my family and friends.

Number two looks a little mischevious, don't you think?
Just how many pieces of pie have you HAD? Seriously!

Some of the dozen or so different desserts I made for the occasion.
Hey, ya'll, it may not be fancy...but it's what I call home.

Number three. CHECK out the HUGE piece of cheesecake!
Oh, wait, you can't see it because it's hidden behind the soda pop.
Turn in my Mommy License again.
Crud! And they just gave it back to me last week!
Number one - My Dude. Six foot three at 14 years old. YIKES
This precious photo of Loverboy and his Pa was just too funny not to share.Pa is clearly thinking...
GET OUTTA HERE WITH THAT CAMERA!
or maybe it's more along the lines of...
IF I WEREN'T ATTACHED TO THIS OXYGEN TANK,
YOU'D BE IN BIIIIIIIG TROUBLE, GIRL!
We had a wonderous Thankfulness holiday.
I hope and pray yours was even better than mine.
May God's blessings abound in your life!
Amen!

Brass Band Playing!!
MY 500TH POST.
Hmmm, well, that was kinda anticlimactic, wasn't it?
Anyway, I just wanted to write and tell you that I had a wonderful day.
I led music at church this morning, which was kind of odd...because I only had an organist to work with. But being summer and good weather, there were only about 3 people there to watch me mess up. :D
I still am in a quandry as to whether or not I should FORCE or BRIBE my children to go. #1 will only go if we are going out to eat. #3 will only go if #1 goes. #2 goes often, but not all the time. #4 always goes...but that is because she is grafted to me at the hip. I was forced to go to church as a child. Three times a week, Sunday am, pm and Wednesday night. And I HATED IT. Ick, Ooo, Torture.
On the other hand, I AM the parent and what I say is supposed to go...right?
Crud, I don't know.
ONWARD...after church, we were invited to the beach by some VERY special friends. Lunch included. WOW!
Played in the surf and got hit about hip level by a wave that was bigger than I thought. Got my cell phone a little damp...OOOoops.
Made sandcastles. Flew a kite. Watched the kids climb on rocks. Got sunburned. Relaxed. Aaaaaah! It was wonderful.
My kids hadn't met my friends yet...and it was love at first fly. While flying kites, #3 said it was her best day ever and asked to take my friends home with us. Which is funny, cuz they are both over 40. I guess she adores them as much as I do. :D
The girls and the mutt slept on the way home. I tried NOT to sleep on the way home.
It was a Vewy, Vewy, Vewy good day.
HA, depression!! TAKE THAT!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I remember as a teenager in high school we were required to write an essay about what the world would be like in the year 2000.
Boy, was I wrong! I wrote something about all humans wearing silver jumpsuits and driving hovercraft instead of cars and not having to take off your clothes to take a shower.
Yah, I'm weird. I know.
Spent yesterday with my family. We went to visit some horses. The kids got lead around.
I got lead around. YEP, got my hiney up on a horse and she LEAD me. I thought my dad was gonna giggle himself silly. But I also think he was proud of me for trying and asking. WOW my leg muscles are tender just from that short ride.
I'll have to do something about that.
Then we all went out to pizza so my niece could take a photo of my sisters and I. It's the first time we've been together in almost three years...and probably the last time we will all be together at once in at least that long again. My mother wanted a picture. So we went.
My sisters got slightly ticked at me because I made a silly face in one picture and did "rabbit ears" over my youngest sister in another picture. But that's why God created "Paint" programs on the computer, isn't it?? Hee Hee. I was serious in most of the pictures so they'll have some.
Secretly, I want a copy of the silly photos. Life wasn't meant to be so stuffy.
New year. So much happened in the last one.
I really have to figure out how to back up my blogger posts. There has to be a way...
except saving all five hundred one by one to my hard drive. Please, not that!
Gotta go take the middle two to "art camp". They got a scholarship to go and they are SO excited...been talking about it for days.
I'm excited for the peace and quiet for five hours a day. :D

White Christmas time....
We had about 20 people around our table, the food overflowed, my aunt did the dishes...and only two minor family "squabbles", so I consider it a raving success.
The kids were ANGELS considering they were the only kids there AND we had to take a 1989 Toyota Carolla for an hour ride one way "over the river and through the woods" to gramma's house. They hardly complained and didn't fight once!
I just got done cooking a turkey for us, along with a batch of cookies, dessert bars, a pie and some gravy. We grubbed on it for dinner...but I'm pretty tired now.
So I'm gonna go put my feet up and watch the first broadcast of the season of my ALLTIME favorite movie...White Christmas!
Catch up with ya' later. :D

Wonder Woman?

I have learned my lesson well these last two years. I am nothing, can do nothing, will be nothing without Christ. It is all...ALL...out of my control. No matter how much I delude myself into thinking I can handle life.
So if I am a Wonder Woman, it is because I serve a wonderful God. He has given me incredible kids, a supportive family, amazing friends, a tender mate and blog-buddies who are far more gracious than I deserve.
I would like to pass this on...
Wishing I could pass it back to Lizzie - but I think she understands.
Donnetta often stops by to encourage me...and I often visit her to see her INCREDIBLE projects (check out the Christmas stockings!) and to be uplifted by her faith.
Michelle amazes me. She writes on her blog EVERY DAY! NO joke! And she has so much FUN stuff going on over there...give aways, recipes, patterns, crafts, AND the NOVEMBER Write Away Contest going on right now!
My twin Connie at This Little Blog deserves it, as well, DEFINITELY. Just knowing there is someone out there in this big old world who has walked in my shoes is a balm to my heart.
If you decide not to post the button or award, I will NOT be offended. Some people would rather not. But I wanted to nominate you and let you know how much you mean to me. There are SO many others I would like to add...but this post needs to end somewhere.
So that will be here.
Have a wonderful week.

Little Old Lady...
Ah, well!
The party's over and the gifts have been opened. Cake eaten...children's drawings ooooo'ed and Aaaaah'ed over.
And I am one year older.
Seems just the other day I was posting about turning forty.
The only time I really feel my age is when I have "Lab" day at EMT class. Trying to keep up with all those young bucks wears me to a frazzle.
Last week was special.
Monday night was my first honest-to-goodness real-life, saw-it-all-happen birth! Beautiful 8lb 9oz girl. Bit of meconium and a slow start with some blow-by O2, but she took a mighty hold on life and was nursing like a pro when we left.
Amazing. Awesome. Incredible.
Prenatal day Thursday then a test in class that night. Keeping up with my classes fairly well. Except Algebra. I'm going down in flames there.
Some dental work here and there. Blech!
Saturday was practice day in EMT world...taking vitals, patient histories, inserting airways and learning about oxygen tanks.
They're always green, you know. And they wobble when you stand them up. So I spent half the day as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs watching those teenagers balancing these tall cylinders on tables. Trying to restrain myself from reaching out to catch them when they threatened to fall and explode. Makes me nervous just thinking about it.
ANYWAY, I had a good birthday. MG got me some wonderful lotion and a fuzzy pink robe so I don't have to run around the house freezing. Kids all made me cute cards. Got some money from the parents and aunties...just enough to keep the electricity on, thank the Good Lord!
MG and the kids made me a birthday cake! It was wonderful. They tried so hard with the German Chocolate cake mix and the strawberry frosting. I wish I had photos! It was a little lopsided and they spelled out "Happy Birthd-ay" in chocolate chips on the top. It was so precious.
I'm all better and no one else caught the yuk. At least no one in my house. I think I gave it to the midwife I assist. But she thinks she caught it from one of the mommy's - so I'll just let her think that.
All in all, things are good. Future looks bright. Everyone is healthy. MG and I are still in love.
What more could an old lady ask for?
Here's my quote for the day...from Mr. Snicket's Horseradish book -
"Fate (or Life) is like a strange unpopular restaurant filled with odd waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like."
I read that and thought "WOW! YAH! THat's just what it feels like some days!"
God bless your socks off!
**Note to kk...Nope, I still haven't gotten hold of any recordings of "Jangle Bells". But I'm still working on it. :D

Cool stuff for Mommy's Day
A wonderful morning of Oooo-ing and Aaaah-ing over handmade gifts and cards from my kiddos.
A morning of Praising God that I have them in my life. There was a time I would spend this holiday crying because, once again, there was no one to call me "Mother". I couldn't get pregnant. Month after month, heartbreak after heartbreak. I wondered if it would ever happen.
Of COURSE it happened. In HIS timing!
Here's a couple of great quotes from the Joke-Of-The-Day dot com;
At work, you think of the children you have left at home. At home, you think of the work you've left unfinished. Such a struggle is unleashed within yourself. Your heart is rent.
- Golda Meir
CAN I JUST SAY AMEN HERE??
If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much.
-Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
PLEASE GOD, don't let me bungle raising my children!!
The Mother's Curse
"One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you....Then you'll see what it's like!"
I did. This thing WORKS, Ya'll!! Kinda scary.
But another thing I've discovered...When the kids start turning out "just like me", I start becoming my mother. "When you get to be my age, you will understand."
When she was my age, she went through the same "mellowing" phase. (NO it wasn't menopause) For some reason, around forty, we both learned to pick our battles; to not sweat the small stuff; we realized what's important and what ain't.
And something else interesting I found that I wanted to share with you was this article from Christian Woman Magazine. She writes about what it's like on Mother's Day if your mother wasn't quite June Cleaver - It touched my heart.
God bless your weekend. I'm gonna be out havin' fun with MG and the kiddos are going to Gramma's for the weekend.

Loose Lips New York ROCKS!
Guess what?
The GENEROUS, WONDERFUL, WISE, FANTASTIC, INCREDIBLE people at Loose Lips NY picked MY humble little blog as a
WINNER!!
$50 of their product...free for me.
I am honored, humbled and blessed.
And now I can replace all that makeup I bought in 1989. I hate to waste it, you know. When you spend $6 on something, you really want to use it till it's all gone.
But what the heck! I'll toss it in the trash when my new treasures come.
Live dangerously, that's my motto!
Hee Hee.

OH, Heavenly Days! I WON!!
**Jumping up and down, giggling and clapping my hands like a five-year-old**
As most of you know, I am a CHBM's groupie. I write for them, I read the other lady's stuff, I join the meme's and, MOST CERTAINLY, enter the drawings/contests for FREE STUFF!!
Well, last week I wrote a post for a contest to win $50 in merchandise from the All Mom's Go To Heaven fashion boutique. I entered not only for the free stuff...which is always cool...but because I appreciate this company's philosophy of recognizing mothers for all they do "behind the scenes". She even has a page on her site HERE to nominate your favorite mother for a weekly drawing!

Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

MG + Me + kiddos = Family
MG has been taking a Math class, so we work on his homework together every night.
I am registering for college soon and it looks like I'm going to have to take Elementary Algebra 101. To me, that seems like a contradiction in terms..."Elementary" and "Algebra". How many of you took Algebra in Elementary school, hmmmmm?
#2 has math homework every weekend.
And Friday night, we had a special addition ceremony.
MG + Me + kiddos = Family
I made a nice dinner and we all sat down at the table. Which we don't usually do...so the rugrats knew something was up. But they were excited; helped me set the table and place the bowls of food, salt and pepper, condiments. Lit some little floating star candles in a glass bowl.
Pretty HooHah stuff for our redneck family, ya' know!
Anyway, I'll tell you what I served if you PROMISE not to laugh.
Stop laughing.
I haven't even told you yet and I bet you're laughing already. :D
Ok, here goes. I made frozen potstickers, Cheeseburger macaroni Hamburger Helper and Cauliflower with butter.
Told you I was a redneck Woman.
Back to the ceremony thing...
A little history here. The kids (especially the girls) have been asking for about 5 months if they can call MG "Dad". He wasn't real hep on it. Too soon...he wasn't ready...the word "Daddy" doesn't always have a positive connotation in our family. Daddy's hit, daddys say naughty words, Daddys are scary, daddys make Mommy cry.
But Daddys can be wonderful and safe; MG has been doing an awesome job of setting a positive "Daddy" example. He is loving, but firm. I'm proud of him.
So we talked. Decided he REALLY didn't mind it after all; sometimes they slip and call him "Dad" anyway. So I thought we should have a "changing of the guard" ceremony. A "that was then, this is NOW" type of thing.
So I tell the kiddos "I have something to say"...
And they all jump up and say "YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED???"
The next part was slightly anti-climactic.
But I say "Not yet. MG is Divorced and Mom is divorced, but we can't afford to get married just yet. What I want to do is to present an award."
So they are looking at me like I'm nuts. :D
I break out a HappyMeal blow up Pirate sword and get my Prepared Scroll of Sacred Words.
I stand and pronounce...

My Guy Meme
In honor of Valentine's Day.
Like you guys haven't heard enough about him yet. Sorry...
OK, not really. But, you know, if you're sick of hearing about him just skip on to the next post. I'm just a little obsessed.
Hope he doesn't kill me...
I LOOOOOooooVE you, honey! XXXOOO
His age: "late forties"...VEEEEERRRY Late!
How tall is he: HE says six foot, the doctor's office says 5 ft 9.
How long have you been together: "together" for 10 months.
How long did you know each other before you got together? About 6 months.
What physical features attracted you to him first?: the SMILE with dimples; impish, like he's just about to do something naughty.
Eye color: brown
Hair color: Sandy brown
Hair style: Used to be long, from what he tells me. But I'm his barber now, so it's a 1/2 inch clipper cut. And he looks VERY studly!
Normal Outfit: Tank top and shorts
How did you meet: On MySpace. But if my mother asks you, we met in a check-out line at WalMart, ok?
How serious is it: Ummmmm, Fairly Serious.
Are you "in love": I like to think so. We try to keep it fresh!
Do your parents like him: Yes. They have been hurt very badly by my husbands so they are going to guard their hearts for awhile as they get to know him.
Do his parents like you: I know they would, if they were alive. Cuz I'm all that and a box of chips, you know? NOT!
Do you trust him: Definitely! I trust him with my LIFE!.
Would you share a toothbrush with him: Of course. We have the same mouth germs. Trust me.
Would he let you wear his pants?: He's offered, but I've never taken him up on it.
Do you have a shirt of his that you sleep in? No. I sleep in my old "fat" 3X shirts.
Do you like the way he smells: Oh, yes! Sometimes I just nuzzle my nose into his neck and breathe him in. Yummy!
Can you picture having kids with him: We're raising four together. It's our biggest challenge sometimes.
What bothers you the most about him: Undies on the bathroom floor...need I say more?
Does he have a temper: He gets angry; we all do. But he is never mean and is always open to discussion. And like #2 said today "MG is way better than Daddy; MG doesn't hit us."
Are you happy to be with him: In a way I have never been before.
Does he embarrass you in public: Sometimes...but I get him back! Bwahhaahaaa!
Does he smoke or do drugs? NO WAY. In fact, he rode my hiney until I quit smoking.
Does he have any piercings?: one ear. But he doesn't wear an earring very often.
Any tattoos? a partial. We've been trying to find a design that will cover it up, but it's kinda big. And dark colored.
Does he have any scars that you know of? Oh, goodness! More than I can count! Apparently, he was kind of a rowdy teenager. The most dramatic are on his shoulder and thigh. I won't embarrass him and say what the scars are from. Suffice it to say...he's a lucky boy!
Is he a Party dude or Stay at home?: At this stage of his life, he's definitely stay-at-home. I get the distinct impression he has had his "Party-Dude" days, however.
Is he Outgoing or Shy?: Outgoing! Uh, YAH! I call him a big flirt but the truth is that he makes friends with ANYONE he's sitting next to, no matter how old, young, male, female...doesn't matter to him, he'll talk their leg off AND Make them laugh, to boot!
Does he love his mama?: Touchy subject. He never knew her that well.
Would he hang out with you and YOUR friends?: Are you kidding? He went to a Partylite CANDLE party with me Sunday afternoon and sat with a bunch of ladies sniffing candles just so he COULD BE WITH ME. HOW awesome is THAT?!? He loves my friend T and her guy and he misses Mol, my neighbor who moved last month, just as much as I do.
Sing?: Yes, along with the radio and at church. Not half bad, really.
Just when I thought I'd just have to give up and be alone forever...
Here you are. Sharing my life, making me happy, loving my kids.
I never expected this. I know you didn't, either. We were just gonna be best buddies, remember?
Now we're best buddies...with heart.
I love you, MG.
Happy Valentine's Day, Baby!
